Bobble Hat girl is almost finished. Was good to relax and enjoy making something different to my minor project although the print design on her dress came from some of my drawings. I'm really pleased with the colours!

Handmade Dolls

Now my minor project is over! :) I'm at a loose end but not for long I'm sure still a dissertation to finish and on Tuesday we will be given our Final Major Project Brief...... :/ So just to keep myself busy in between a little housework catch up! lol, oh the life of a Student.... I was looking through the latest Selvedge, Folk! Issue 31 Nov/Dec 2009 and came across the following dolls by Pip Squeak Chapeau www.pip-squeakchapeau.com and Apolline a Paris www.apollineaparis.com pop and have a look they are just gorgeous and the Apolline site is just a dream! Now I'm thinking, have a go see what you come up with after the Momiji Couture Contest doll who knows. ( The result for which is to be announced this week I believe watch the Momiji blogspot!) I'm knitting little bobble hats again and matching scarf and have some lovely linen as I want them to have a pure natural look about them, possibly a little scandanavian? Will post some pics soon as when I head back into college this week will print some little areas of the dresses before cleaning the screens for the Christmas break. Where has this year gone?.......

Excited to see that the Momiji Couture contest is being judged at the moment and to find that my Notecards and Egg Cosies all sold at the Knitting and Stitching Show at Harrogate this year! Also have deadline for minor project this Friday 12pm and then I'll be back on with writing my dissertation. Here is a drawing taken through to print for my minor project Illuminated Discharge on Haboti Silk, also put a photo of some birds I embroidered for a garment last year. Looking forward to Christmas with my family though will be chilling out together. No Degree work is coming with me, lol :)

Koda traces can take a very long time to produce especially when doing colour separations. With all the knitting, embroidering and Koda tracing this week I needed to balance life with a bit of Rock & Roll. The Damned were playing (original line up, Captain Sensible and all) at Inside Out, Darlington and so I headed down there tonight to see them! Brilliant night love live bands!

In the print room today dyed and printed two samples of the same design working on a number of colours and using illuminated discharge. Well the colours are interesting a little disappointed with the pink and the green but they will be great to embroider back into ! :)

Where is the time going! We are only 19 days away from our minor project handin! Embroidery is becoming a marathon scenario.... :} Harrogate Knitting and stitching exhibition looming to and have put a couple of things together for the College stall, Cleveland College of Art & Design.
Had a few cards left from last year so put them together as a pack of five blank notecards and envelopes. Then my little bobble hats have evolved into egg cosies and made five of those all package up to. I really enjoyed putting them together but felt neglectful of my embroidered sample although it was real good to have a break from working on that particular piece, phew!
I loving the sample but it's soooooo time consuming! Pictures shortly :}

I have knitted five little bobble hats for the innocent smoothie Big Knit 2009. I wanted to remember those who have served in our armed forces but find themselves having to choose between keeping warm or eating, as so many of our elderly population do.

And here's a little sample of my embroidery for fashion garment!
Busy, Busy, Busy working on one of my eight designs for my minor project! Food was needed to keep my marathon embroidery weekend going and I popped out to Sainsbury's to buy dinner and came across Innocents little food pots, Thai Coconut curry and Mexican sweet potato chilli with winter warmer knitted ankle warmers! lol When did these appear on the shelf? Its all part of the Big Knit Campaign to raise money for Age Concern and Help The Aged and it's so cool the little smoothie drinks they make have little bobble hats! :)

Dissertation the more I write the more muddled I feel :} Ghanaian printed cloth: A social, political and religious case study. What I wish for more than anything else is to have someone who is an expert of Ghanaian printed cloth to sit down with and have a good old chat about it's history and modernity.

I love drawing with stitch this is a piece of my work from my fashion project last year. :)

Poisonous!

Whilst working in my sketchbook this morning I thought I just pop out and take a cutting from my Honeysuckle bush. The berries are almost finished now but there were still a few ripe ones left for me to draw. So i'm drawing away and one bursts over the page! I'm a terrible worrier so wondering if the berries are poisonous I quickly jumped onto google to find out. Thankfully they are not but I wouldn't recommend anyone is complacent about them.
The site
www.countrylovers.co.uk/wfs/wfsberries.htm had a list of berries with images and I was quite shocked to see one that I pass quite a lot out and about which I always feel drawn to for its structure and almost luminous quality I'm always thinking of collecting a few and drawing them. I wouldn't have known at all that it was a deadly as I found out today! So take care when your sketching out there especially when drawing natural flora and fauna.

Had a fabulous weekend in Cambridge. Gorgeous architecture and some great eating houses. Went to the Boathouse last night for a comedy evening, Hillarious would recommend anyone go small very personal venue held last Sunday of every month.

Saturday, 26 September 2009

On my way to my daughters house this morning , heading down Mill Road we passed a fab little vintage shop. Vintage in Vogue is packed full of gorgeous vintage clothing from the 1920's. Everything from evening dresses to tank top and ties! They also have a ecclectic mix of miscellaneous items. I loved the little lampshades with cherries or apples on them got me thinking I might change my minor project from fashion to interiors and design surface patterns for print and embroidered lampshades. I really like the idea of making something practical and i think my techno-folk concept will work really well with interiors!

Saturday in Cambridge :)

Arrived Cambridge this morning catching up with my daughter for a chill out weekend!
